AiNET and Global Midrange Technologies Announce Simple, Effective and Affordable DR/COOP Solution for IBM Power Systems® Users

Frequently buffeted by major power outages and economic disruption, this offering will be welcomed by small to mid-sized IBM Power Systems users for whom an effective DR/COOP solution had been out of reach because of cost or complexity.

Beltsville, MD, November 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- AiNET® and Global Midrange Technologies, Inc., both IBM Solutions Partners®, today announced a partnership to market a simple, effective and highly-affordable Disaster Recovery/Continuity of Operations (DR/COOP) solution for enterprises relying on IBM Power Systems for their mission-critical applications. An enterprise protected by this solution will enjoy the operational certainty of having its production IBM Power System (AS/400®) replicating to a backup Power 7 System® operating in AiNET’s hardened, ultra-reliable TIA-942 Tier IV data center with connectivity provided via a hardened, redundant, and diverse fiber optic network.

“This year, with severe storms, hurricanes, and now early snowstorms knocking out power, DR/COOP needs have emerged front and center,” said Michael Henderson, Managing Director of Global Midrange Technologies. “We kept hearing how our customers couldn’t find a solid [DR/COOP] solution that fit their budgets, so we figured out how to do it.” Charged as a monthly fee, the offering packages all of the hardware, Tier IV data center facilities, maintenance, support and communications necessary to implement and operate an effective DR/COOP solution. The base package is priced at less than $3,300/month and the solution can be operational in as little as four weeks.

For the base package, the IBM Power Systems Capacity Back Up (CBU) is comprised of a Power 720 - 6 core 3.0 GHz system (1 active processor), 16 GB of memory, and 1 TB of RAID 5 disk. The package also includes IBM iCluster® replication software for both production and CBU systems and 3 years of 24x7 hardware and software maintenance on the CBU system.

Global Midrange Technologies turned to AiNET for the data center and communications side of the package. Henderson said, “Continuity of operations requires practical certainty of availability, and after looking we concluded that AiNET’s Tier IV data center and network was exactly what we needed – and they met the cost targets.” Commenting on AiNET’s selection, AiNET President Deepak Jain said, “We are extremely pleased that [Global Midrange Technologies] recognized the uniqueness of our data centers and communications to support mission-critical needs.”

In ANSI/TIA-942, Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers, the American National Standards Institute and the Telecommunications Industry Association define four tiers of data centers according to availability. The distinguishing characteristic of the most-available tier, Tier IV, is fault tolerance – the ability of the data center to sustain failures within multiple major systems and remain operational.

In a DR/COOP setting, a few of the confidence-giving features of AiNET’s certified SAS 70, Type II, TIA-942 Tier IV data center include: diverse utility main-power feeds, 2N generator redundancy, AiNET’s own newly-patented power protection technology, an on-site 7 day fuel generator supply, a 3-year full battery replacement cycle, 3N chiller redundancy, 3N cooling tower redundancy and 2N chilled water loop redundancy. AiNET provides system block diagrams of its critical power and cooling systems on its website. Operating Internet AS6405, AiNET communications are provided via its hardened, redundant DWDM fiber optic network.

Last month, following deployment in its data centers, AiNET announced that it had been awarded a U.S. patent for its Critical Power Protection Supervisor technology that addresses a class of vulnerabilities in power security to which all other data centers remain exposed.
