Philippine Based Artist Invited to Exhibit in Australia

Makati City, Philippines, April 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The Australian National University’s Photospace Gallery has invited Philippines based artist, Henry Bateman, to exhibit his latest work at the gallery in September.

The 14 canvas giclees destined to go to Australia for this exhibition, entitled ‘Altered States II’, were made over the last 2 years and are of Bateman’s view of living in the Philippines.

An Australian expatriate, Bateman has been a permanent resident of the Philippines since 2005. He has been making art for over 30 years, but to depict the Philippines he had to develop a new visual language to accurately articulate his Filipino experience.

“The Philippines and the Filipinos are unique,” Bateman said. “It is a place of extremes, from the squatter settlements to the Ayala concrete jungle, from the shopaholics paradise of the malls to religious fervor of the Holy Week celebrations. Then there is the smiling hospitality of the Filipinos themselves, from all walks of life, as they triple check every business transaction,” he added.

When confirming the exhibition dates the academic coordinator for the Photospace Gallery, Peter Fitzpatrick, stated “I am really looking forward to showing your work.”

Bateman has to hand 10 of the works for the exhibition and will complete the 4 outstanding pieces over the next couple of months.
