Galaxie Doubles Music Channel Count to 100

New channels appeal to diverse tastes, multicultural communities and fans of Canadian Indie music.

Toronto, Canada, November 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Stingray Digital, Canada’s leader in interactive music for TV service providers, today announced that it has doubled the number of Galaxie music channels offered to Canadians. Currently delivered in packages of 40 or 45 channels, Galaxie has expanded the lineup to 100 channels with new Canadian indie and multicultural choices and more variety in Galaxie’s most popular music genres.

The new channels are now available to be rolled out to customers across Canada in cooperation with Galaxie’s television service provider partners. Galaxie is distributed to more than 10 million homes in Canada, another 10 million homes across Europe, and to a rapidly increasing number of homes in the US via cable, satellite and IPTV.

“Our goal is for Galaxie to be the primary source of music for Canadians and to meet the needs of the casual music lover,” says Eric Boyko, president of Stingray Digital. “By doubling the number of channels offered by Galaxie, we are making an already popular service even more appealing to a wider audience, and increasing the relevancy of the service for existing fans.”

Boyko adds, “These new channels cover new genres that our customers have been asking for and more options in the most popular music categories. Additionally, we are launching a variety of multicultural channels in an effort to better reflect Canada’s increasing diversity.”

Among the new channels are two, new all-Canadian channels, including Canadian Indie. Canada continues to punch above its weight when it comes to fostering and exporting quality music. The Canadian indie scene is recognized world-wide as a dynamic and active source of fantastic new music. The Canadian Indie channel will provide another outlet for these bands to be heard on the Galaxie dial across Canada.

“CIMA is excited about the launch of Galaxie’s new music services, particularly the new Canadian Indie channel,” says Stuart Johnston, President of the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA). “Galaxie must be congratulated for recognizing the deep and diverse talent of Canada’s independent artists, and for giving them a much-deserved platform for showcasing their music.”

Galaxie: the Most Channels and Listeners in Canada

With 100 professionally programmed music channels, Galaxie offers more channels than any other Canadian music service including commercial radio, online music services and satellite radio.

Galaxie is the most widely distributed and listened-to music service in Canada. A recent, independent national survey by Vision Critical found that Galaxie’s channels were listened to by more than one-third of all Canadians (35%) in the past month and by more than one in five Canadians (21%) in the past week. More than half of Canadians (58%) have listened to Galaxie at some point in the past, according to Vision Critical.

In addition to the TV-delivered service, many TV service providers also offer the Galaxie service to their subscribers on broadband. The recently launched Galaxie iPhone and Android mobile apps provide even more flexibility for listening to Galaxie. The new channels will be rolled out on all platforms, at no additional cost to customers.
