Hiu Students Share Their Voices for CollegeTown Development Project in the City of Fullerton

Hope’s CollegeTown Preview event offered students the chance to give valuable feedback and enjoy free entertainment, food, and giveaways.

Fullerton, CA, December 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Over 400 people were in attendance on Thursday, November 17, when Hope International University (HIU) hosted its CollegeTown Preview event. Held in conjunction with Fall Preview Day, a day that shows prospective students what it means to attend a private Christian University in Fullerton, the CollegeTown event invited current and prospective HIU students to share their opinions about the expansion project by taking a brief ten-minute survey. Over 100 students participated in the virtual town hall survey hosted and designed by MindMixer, and each participant received a CollegeTown shirt. Many attendees also walked away with an HIU hat they won by competing in a hoops game run by Hope’s men’s basketball team.

Throughout the event, live entertainment was provided by Hope alumni band The Fellows We Are and lunch was supplied by Pioneer College Caterers who also gave out fresh snow cones and cotton candy. Chick-Fil-A also showed up to give everyone a chance to win free prizes and visit with the chain’s cow mascot. Additional organizations were present including the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), The Planning Center, Mind Mixer, and on-campus entities such as Campus Ministries and the Hope Counseling Center.

CollegeTown is a collaborative project between HIU, California State University Fullerton (CSUF), and the City of Fullerton to enhance community identity and offerings by creating a “university without borders.” When complete, the 70-acre development will surround the HIU campus and include new student housing, restaurants, retail stores, a pedestrian mall, a town square and will provide a sense of place. The first steps of the renovation are already visible south of Hope’s campus at Commonwealth and Chapman where construction is progressing on University House, a new residential and retail complex.
