Cat Care Society Builds Holiday Appeal Around Rescue Cat "Necklace," Providing Powerful Reasons to Support Its Shelter and Clinic Programs on Colorado Gives Day Dec 6th

Cat Care Society (CCS) has built its annual Holiday Appeal around the success of its recent work with the abandoned 7-year-old cat named "Necklace" by the Society Staff. Necklace was found with multiple skin injuries to her neck and face, an ulcer on her upper lip, a broken tooth, and three open facial wounds near her ear, jaw, and cheek. Timed perfectly with the appeal, CCS is now a participating non-profit in the GivingFirst.org Colorado Gives Day on Dec. 6.

Lakewood, CO, December 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Cat Care Society (CCS) has built its annual Holiday Appeal around the success of its work this fall with an abandoned 7-year-old cat named 'Necklace" by the Society's shelter and clinic staff. The announcement is made by Diane Stoner, CCS Board President, who says: "We found Necklace in early October abandoned in a dirty carrier outside the Cat Care Society Clinic. Necklace had multiple skin injuries to her neck and face, an ulcer on her upper lip, a broken tooth, and three open facial wounds near her ear, jaw, and cheek. We don’t know what happened, but our team went right to work."

While under The Cat Clinic's care, Necklace received daily antiseptic washes of her wounds. Gauze around her neck enables her to wear a protective cone, which prevents further injury from scratching. She is starting to heal, and despite all her trauma, Necklace loves to be touched. She will lean in for "head butts" and starts purring and kneading as soon as someone shows affection.

"We are pleased to report that Necklace was adopted to her forever home on November 18. Necklace still has to wear the cone to keep her from scratching her delicate healing skin. Necklace's new 'person' was advised by Cat Care staff on how keep her claws trimmed short to aid in the continuing healing process," explains Stoner. "The CCS Necklace appeal is timed perfectly with our Society's participation the GivingFirst.org Colorado Gives Day on December 6. We were accepted as a registered non-profit organization in the program earlier this year."

Necklace’s story is disturbing – and ultimately uplifting – but certainly not unique among the cats Cat Care Society has known and cared for during its 30 years of service to the community. CCS does not receive any government funding; all financial support comes from the community in the form of private donations.

Here's now donations help Cat Care Society:

* $5,000 feeds 60 cats for 9 months.
* $1,000 cares for 30 kittens, including shots, spays/neuters, microchips, food and litter.
* $500 provides medical care for one geriatric cat for one year.
* $125 purchases one month’s worth of kitty litter.
* $50 provides antibiotics for a sick cat.

This is the second year for Colorado Gives Day and, similar to last year, processing fees will be covered by Community First Foundation, FirstBank and local foundations so that 100 percent of Colorado Gives Day donations go directly to nonprofit organizations such as CCS.

About Cat Care Society

The CCS, founded in 1981 by Linda East, DVM and Lynn Rowe, is a nonprofit organization established to improve the quality of life for homeless, injured and abused cats in the Denver metropolitan area. The Society's goals are:

* To sponsor educational programs that promote responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of all animals, and the elimination of pet overpopulation;
* To shelter cats in a healthy, cage free environment and to find compatible and responsible families for every cat;
* To provide community outreach programs that improve the quality of life for cats and people;
* To be a friend to all cats.

The CCS is supported by a number of loyal members and contributors, without whom the shelter could not operate. CCS receives no government funding. In addition, CCS volunteers assist with many fundraising activities each year such as book sales, Meow Mart, Cajun’s Closet Thrift Store, the holiday gift and bake sale and much more.
