The Medal Play Golf Tour Visited Hillcrest on a Chilly Day

Sun City, AZ, December 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour visited Hillcrest Golf Club Saturday on a very chilly day. “The elements were definitely a factor today,” commented tour director Blane Freytag. “We get spoiled with great weather in Arizona so when the temperature dips below 60 degrees it plays with the players' focus and ability to stay loose.”

The Championship Division saw tour rookie Sandy Davis fire a 3 under net 69 for his first win in as many tries. Jeff Campbell continued his steady play to place second with a net 73 while Kurt Chambers placed 3rd with a net 76 over competitor Steve Swan in a scorecard playoff.

The Gold Division saw Al Mayhew shoot his best round on tour for his first victory in the Gold Division. Mayhew was recently promoted from the Silver Division. Dick Colt placed second with a net 73 while Carl Thackeray and Jerry Boysen battled for third with a scorecard playoff. Thackeray won on the second playoff hole to claim 3rd place money.

The Silver Division enjoyed a great battle with its largest field of the season. Newcomer Michael Lawson Sr wasted no time earning a victory in his very first event with a net 74. Lawson carries a 25 handicap which proves all handicaps can compete and win on tour. Luther Sander was a shot back to place second and tour veteran Matt Horner placed 3rd.

The tour returns to action at Legend of Arrowhead in Glendale on Saturday January 28th.
