DVE Issued a Landmark Patent for Next Generation Telepresence and Tele-immersion

Irvine, CA, May 04, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Digital Video Enterprises, Inc. (www.DVEtelepresence.com) announced today the issuing of a landmark patent #7,209,160 related to the burgeoning field of telepresence conferencing. Telepresence conferencing has received considerable attention recently with firms such as Cisco, Polycom and HP offering a variety of telepresence room-based solutions. DVE is unique in the field, because of DVE’s superior eye-to-eye experience by embedding the hidden camera directly behind the eyes of the person on the screen. The experience is remarkably like being there in person. The patent has over 45 claims and 19 independent claims covering a variety of telepresence and tele-immersion experiences.

The patent teaches the art of true telepresence and reveals the next frontier of conferencing known as tele-immersion. “Tele-immersion has been envisioned by science fiction writers for decades where imaged people actually appear holographic and 3-D. With DVE tele-immersion imaged people walk around and interact with local conference people as if actually in the room,” stated DVE co-founder Jeff Machtig. The patent claims two methodologies to achieve the experience which includes the use of holographic / transparent projection screens and the use of large format flexible beamsplitters.

The patent is part of a family of continuation-in-part patents that date back to the mid-1990s establishing DVE’s inventorship. The patent further claims unique front projection pathways to fold light in an optical pathway with beamsplitters and numerous improvements to DVE’s core technologies. According to Jeff Machtig, “DVE will launch in Early Summer ‘07 group experiences unlike anything ever commercially available. The corporate boardroom will never be the same when we deploy DVE tele-immersion that offers 3-D augmented reality collaboration.”

DVE is a Gold Sponsor of the Telepresence World 2007 conference (www.telepresenceworld.com) to be held June 4-6 at the University of San Diego, San Diego, CA. This landmark conference will thoroughly profile the art and science of telepresence and its groundbreaking impacts on virtual collaboration. Attendees of Telepresence World 2007 will have the unique opportunity to participate in live, real-time demonstrations of DVE’s telepresence technology, including telepresence solutions that range from personal systems for the home office to unique group systems that hide the camera directly behind the image of the person on the display.

About DVE
Digital Video Enterprises, Inc. is the world’s leader in True Telepresence conferencing. Traditional videoconferencing has been proven to be a poor communication medium, because of the unnatural and awkward experience it provides. This is achieved, in part, by optically concealed cameras behind the images on the display screens. Coupled with next generation hardware and software that provide true DVD and HD quality images, the experience finally fulfills the promise of quality videoconferencing. The overall experience is defined by DVE as “True Telepresence” and represents an entire new medium for human communication over a distance.
