DAMN Digital Waits Patiently for Announcement of 2012 SXSW Interactive Award Winners

DAMN Digital successfully submitted entries in six categories for the 2012 SXSW Interactive Awards and now wait patiently for the announcement of the award winners.

Brooklyn, NY, December 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- DAMN Digital Studio (www.damndigitalstudio.com), an interactive agency based in Dumbo, Brooklyn, New York’s Digital District, successfully submitted entries in six categories for the 2012 SXSW Interactive Awards. Now the agency is patiently waiting for the announcement of the award winners.

After much debate of whether to submit any entries, co-founders founders Danii Oliver and Kevin Braithwaite, moved forward with the submission process and pulled 16 to 20 hour workdays for over a week. A project of this scale would normally take a full design and development team to plan and execute, but since this wasn’t a dedicated client project, it was up to the responsibility of Danii and Kevin to complete the submission process around meeting client deadlines and conducting sales calls.

The work submitted by the DAMN Digital team included its Nick Versus (http://www.nickversus.com) interactive book series, which features a seven year-old growing up in New York City. Each week, Nick finds himself in a situation where he has to face a battle versus a new opponent. These battles may include, Nick versus the dark or Nick versus bullies. After these battles, he sits at his desk to write an email to his grandparents of the week’s events. Nick Versus is the second interactive book produced by DAMN Digital and is the first production release from "The Digital Zone" project pipeline.

Since the deadline for the SXSW Interactive Awards occurred after Thanksgiving, the two-man team used the holiday to immerse themselves into the project and conduct user testing, which occurred on audiences of various generations, from 19 year-olds to 62 year-olds. Because of the team’s strategic planning with the development of its interactive book, Danii and Kevin had a smooth workflow.

The interactive book focuses on engaging children in the digital space; not by just having them stare at a screen, but also involving them within the book’s storyline. In order to complete the book, users will have to navigate through a plot or complete a challenge. The books will be available for tablets, such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Motorola Zoom, which run on Google’s Android OS. The team will develop an iPad version in the near future. The books feature games, puzzles, animations, cut scene videos, audio, read along and sound effects, and is touch sensitive. The books are highly interactive and engaging for children of all ages.
