Slim Down and Win Announces New Online Weight Loss Program

More than two-thirds of American adults are now overweight or obese. It's time people changed their way of thinking about diet & weight loss and take a body, mind, soul approach to weight management.

Gaithersburg, MD, December 29, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in America.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than two-thirds of American adults are now overweight or obese, and that’s putting their lives and longevity at risk. Obesity increases a person’s chance of developing all kinds of health problems, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and some cancers.

To the millions of Americans who have tried some kind of diet plan to bring their weight under control, Kay Loughery, a former health communicator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, says congratulations. To the 80 percent of them who have tried but failed according to a study in the American Journal of Nutrition, she offers this advice: “It’s time to try something different. Obviously what you were doing is not working,” she said.

Loughrey feels so strongly about changing people’s way of thinking about diet and weight loss that she left her job with the government in March 2011, to start Slim Down & Win (http://slimdownandwin.com), a weight management system that takes a body, mind, soul approach to weight management.

“My approach is to bring self care, wellness and weight loss together in a comprehensive system that is designed to be part of a joy-filled life journey,” she said. The thinking, adds Loughrey, is that if people enjoy the process they will be more prone to stick with it.

To help get the word out about the strategies she has developed, Loughrey will be hosting a free Teleseminar on Thursday, January 5, 2012, between 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. ET. During “How to Jump Start Your Weight Loss for 2012,” attendees will learn some of the proven strategies they can use to lose weight, as well as how to build the resilience they will need to stick with it. Registration is open now on the website, http://slimdownandwin.com.

People can also sign up for Slim Down & Win’s six-week Teleseminar Series to be offered every Thursday night between Jan. 12 and Feb. 23, 2012, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Please note, there will be no Teleseminar on January 26, 2012.

There are sessions planned on how to beat stress and fuel resilience; and how to focus the mind, manage emotions and create the right mindset. Also in the series, sessions offering strategies for creating a customized food plan and becoming more physically active; one on proven techniques for changing mindless behavior; one on how to make weight loss permanent; and one on how to handle tough weight management challenges.

“Anybody can cut calories and boost their physical activity to loose weight temporarily; but keeping it off is the real challenge. It’s not just about the diet. Self care is so much more important,” said Loughrey.
