Los Angeles, CA, January 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- For the first time in the United States, an exhibition by Lexander of a rare and important selection of political posters of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), as well as original photographs offering a window into the cultural and political life of the former socialist state.

As the most economically advanced of the East Bloc socialist states, the GDR invested a great deal of resources into the cultural sphere of their society and offered an unprecedented level of artistic freedom to graphic artists in the 1970s and 1980s. The political posters of the GDR, unlike those of the other socialist states, exert a youthful energy and integrate radical design sensibilities which have since influenced contemporary advertising and graphic design in the West.

Little known outside academic circles, Lexander is pleased to offer the wider public the opportunity to examine this crucial period in the history of art and the geopolitical cultural landscape.

Also featured, a selection of Soviet political art and sculptures from the collections of a former KGB general and member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

The exhibition will be held at the Lexander gallery location in Downtown Los Angeles. The opening reception will be held on January 20th from 6PM until 9PM.
