A Spy in Every Classroom - Grenoble Ecole de Management Students Test CIA Methods

Twenty-six students in the Advanced Master in Biotechnology Management at Grenoble Ecole de Management (GEM) are becoming beta-testers of an intelligence analysis software developed by CIA veterans – a first in Europe.

Grenoble, France, January 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Objective: Shed light on the future of the biotechnology business market.

Students at GEM are not swapping their jeans for tuxedos, laptops for spy gadgets, nor changing their style for a James Bond suave look...they are going to test the intelligence analysis software, TeamACH(TM), during a module delivered by Edward Roche, Visiting Professor from Columbia University (New York).

Developed by Globalytica LLC, a leading supplier of intelligence analysis software, the TeamACH(TM) software is based on analysis techniques developed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

According to Randolph Pherson, a 28-year veteran of the CIA, “Many of the same techniques used in government and military intelligence can be transferred to the business community. This is the first time this sophisticated software has been used outside of the Unite States. GEM is the only non-USA School to expose its students to this technology intelligence analytical tool.”

GEM’s expertise in Management of Technology and Innovation and more specifically in biotechnology management this last decade, makes it a fertile context to anticipate, thanks to this analytical software, the stakes of a rapidly expanding biotech industry.

Questions analyzed by this intelligence analysis software are: Essentially those linked to long-term issues: trends, markets, competition, technologies. Why such and such business will become the leader in 20 years’ time? Which will be the most relevant company to be launched on a given market? Which technology will make the difference in terms of strategy? Etc.

This intelligence analysis software is only used to help critical analytical thinking: the students are the ones that will be thinking, collecting the evidence, detecting current weaknesses on the market, and offer hypotheses. All of this information will then be integrated in the software, which already holds data by other users. At the end, the hypotheses are prioritized and trends are brought to light.

Arsia AMIR-ASLANI, Professor and Director of the Advanced Master in Biotechnology Management at GEM, said: “We are training students who already have a strong scientific background, bringing them strategic management, technology and innovation skills.

“It is essential for us to expose our students to the most advanced analytical techniques and more particularly cutting-edge software for them to immediately add value to their companies, upon graduation.”
