DirectRooms.com – Carnival Time Brings Masses to Limassol Hotels This February 2012

The Cypriot resort of Limassol is this coming February set to enjoy a boost to its tourist trade as the town hosts its annual carnival spectacular.

Limassol, Cyprus, January 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Getting a Limassol hotel at a bargain price may as such be more difficult than usual, advises hotel room bookings website DirectRooms.com.

Cyprus's climate regularly attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists to the island every year, and carnival time also sees many native Cypriots head to popular resorts like Limassol. The carnival period lasts for a full 10 days from February 16th to February 26th and the town enjoys its busiest time of the year during carnival.

The Limassol Carnival has its origins in historic pagan celebrations and the format of the festivities is loads of street processions, live music, theater and the famous King's Carnival parade. This hugely popular procession features huge papier-mâché statues of historic figures while local children get to dress up in fancy dress costumes too.

During the initial five days of Carnival there is a festival named "Kreatini," which sees the locals prepare for lent by eating as much meat as they can. Tourists in particular enjoy this part of carnival as they get to try out a lot of local delicacies.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head of DirectRooms.com, says, “We know only too well that Cyprus is a hugely popular tourist destination which enjoys big visitor numbers every year - and around Carnival time it is busier than ever. The smart move this coming February is to book up your hotel well before arriving to be sure of getting a good value deal."
