Falls Church, VA, January 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On December 10, more than 50 DynCorp International employees gathered at Arlington National Cemetery for Wreaths Across America, an annual holiday event that recognizes fallen veterans by placing wreaths at their grave markers.

The good work of the DynCorp International volunteers helped make it a record-setting year for Wreaths Across America. Thousands of well-wishers throughout the nation laid more than 100,000 wreaths this year, more than three times the usual number.

Each year, Wreaths Across America brings people together on the second Saturday of each December to place holiday wreaths at the grave markers of fallen heroes within veterans’ cemeteries across the country. The wreaths remain until mid-January.

Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization that expands on the annual wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, which was established in 1992 by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester.

The event promotes a week of activities, including international veterans’ tributes, ceremonies at State Houses and a week-long “Veteran’s Parade” between Maine and Virginia. Representatives stop along the way to share messages of remembrance about fallen heroes, honoring those who serve, and teaching children about the sacrifices veterans and their families make in preserving U.S. citizens’ freedom.

The Wreaths Across America week of events is made possible by donations by individual wreaths sponsors, corporate donors and volunteer truck drivers.
Wreaths Across America also coordinates veteran services and recognition through a variety of programs and provides schools with teaching aides for projects throughout the year.

Arlington National Cemetery is located in Arlington, Va. and operates under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Army as part of the Army National Cemeteries Program. The grounds of Arlington National Cemetery honor those who have served the U.S. armed forces.
