Children’s Programs for Every Season at Sheldrake Environmental Center

Winter in the woods... then, spring and summer are back for the kids.

Larchmont, NY, January 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- It's winter. During Presidents' Week, the kids should dress in extra layers and bundle up. It’s time to go to Sheldrake Environmental Center and head for the woods, to find out how animals stay warm and spend the crisp season. They’ll search for clues - who's awake and who's asleep? They’ll find winter birds, insects, egg cases (even butterflies), and, look for signs of rabbits, deer, mice, chipmunks and squirrels.

The flowers are in bloom, the forest and pond are bustling with life. Starting Monday, March 19, the kids can go to Sheldrake to explore, investigate and discover what’s springing up in nature this spring. Sheldrake will be offering programs of interest to a variety of ages: Tiny Trekkers (ages 3-5 with caregiver), Young Explorers (ages 4-5), Go Green Adventurers (kindergarteners), and Holiday and Vacation Camps (ages 4-9).

Pre-school is over, summer camp has not begun yet. . . Aren’t we all looking for activities to keep our pre-schoolers occupied? June Mini Camp is the perfect way for them to enjoy the season. From June 4 and until summer camp starts, they will explore the trails, investigate pond life and search for critters in nature's playground.

And, it’s not too early for the kids to reserve a spot in Sheldrake’s Summer Nature Camp. When school is out, the learning and fun continue at Sheldrake.

At Sheldrake Environmental Center children turn over a log, pick up a bug, make a leaf collage. Sheldrake offers a variety of programs which encourage nature exploration and allow for experiencing nature first-hand. By participating in these programs, not only do children learn ecological concepts, but they also become effective stewards of the natural world. Sheldrake aims to spark a lifelong love of, and respect for, nature.

Sheldrake Environmental Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire environmental awareness and action in the community and to preserve, protect and enhance local environmental resources. Sheldrake offers programs for people of all ages and is located at 685 Weaver Street in Larchmont, NY.
