14 Cats Abandoned at the Hermitage Cat Shelter

Tucson, AZ, January 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Staff members of the Hermitage Cat Shelter discovered a large cage and two pet carriers by the rear gate early Friday morning. The cage and carriers were filled with 14 terrified cats that showed signs of extreme neglect. Staff members suspect that the animals had been held in the cages for an extensive length of time before being abandoned.

“This surprise has caught us a bit flat footed and we need help,” said Cindy McGuire, executive director of the Hermitage. “Many of these cats are sick and will need considerable medical care - even before we get them vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped, as we do for all our cats before they are adopted.”

The Hermitage is asking for help from the public in the form of both volunteers and monetary donations to enable the organization to help these abandoned animals.

Any individuals with information about these cats is asked to come forward, as an investigation is being conducted into the abandonment. According to ARS 13-2910, it is a Class 6 felony to abandon animals.

To make a donation or for information, please call the Hermitage at (520) 571-7839 or visit www.hermitagecatshelter.org.
