New York, NY, January 27, 2012 --(PR.com
)-- iGavel Auctions associate seller Nye & Company’s auction is now featured on www.iGavelAuctions.com until February 8th, 2012. The sale contains more than 1,000 lots of fine and decorative art from various estates and collections from all over the Tri-State area. In keeping with the theme of the New York auctions, this offering includes excellent examples of American and English Furniture.
Highlights include a landscape by the noted California painter, Maurice Braun (1877-1941). Regarded as an American painter, he emigrated with his family as a young boy from Hungary, ultimately studying with William Merritt Chase and others before establishing himself as a California and New York painter. The large sun-drenched landscape is typical of his work on the west coast.
Included in the Nye Auction is a Chippendale Mahogany Block- Front Reverse-Serpentine Slant Front Desk, labeled in the large interior drawer by Benjamin Frothingham, one of the most prestigious cabinetmakers in mid-18th century.
Other notable items in this auction are a fine inlaid mahogany timepiece by David Wood, a Queen Anne Mahogany Corner Chair, a Federal New York Pier Mirror with Eagle Finial, and a George III Mahogany Chest-on-Chest from the late 18th century. There is also a pair of William Hunt Diederich (1884-1953) horse-form figures and a Federal New York Star-Inlaid Games Table with Paw Feet, reminiscent of works by Duncan Phyfe or Charles Honore Lannuier in the early 19th century.
The auction also contains two Photogravure prints by Edward Sheriff Curtis (American, 1868-1952). The perpetually popular images are titled “Oasis in the Badlands” and “The Maid of Dreams.”
Nye & Company relocated to Montclair and Bloomfield, New Jersey making them more easily accessible from New York City. John and Kathleen Nye acquired Dawson’s after his long and fruitful Sothebys career.
