Saint Marys, GA Nature Photographer Jackie DeBusk Awarded Artist-in-Residence

Saint Marys, GA, February 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism awarded Saint Marys photographer, Jackie DeBusk, a 2012 Artist-in-Residence at Santee Sate Park.

The process to obtain a residency required DeBusk to submit artistic examples, published works, and a statement of purpose. All applicants were evaluated by an appointed committee who made the final selections for the coveted stays in several South Carolina parks.

With special emphasis on nature photography, Jackie DeBusk, M.Ed., teaches beginning digital SLR photographers how to simplify the technical aspects of digital photography. She teaches participants how to use basic technical settings of their cameras to make creative composition choices. DeBusk teaches these beginning digital photography workshops in Southeastern United States parks’ natural settings, providing materials, lots of hands-on practice, and useful advice during shooting exercises.

DeBusk has been photographing events and nature for nearly twenty years. She currently serves Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Folkston, GA as a volunteer photographer for special occasions.

Also a seasoned instructor of adult learners, she earned a Masters in Vocational Education from Valdosta State University in 1997. She moved from film to digital in 1999, and she can advise on the transition, including changing from a chemical darkroom to digital "darkrooms" using editors such as Paint Pro and Photoshop Elements. DeBusk uses engaging techniques to teach, providing a very participant-focused photography workshop.
