Shelter Dogs and Cats in Madison Receive Large Donation from Purina (R) Pets for People (TM)

Thousands of pounds of dog food and cat litter donated to local animal shelters and rescue groups will allow them to save more lives.

Madison, WI, February 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On Friday February 17th, twenty-two animal shelters and rescue groups from the Madison area will fill their trucks and trailers with cases of Beneful® prepared dog meals and Tidy Cats® cat litter donated through the Purina® Pets for People™ program.

The 12,800 pounds of donated food will provide over one month’s worth of meals for more than 350 dogs cared for daily by these 22 organizations, and 80,000 pounds of cat litter will fill the litter boxes of more than 2,000 cats for several months.

“We are very fortunate to be involved with this program. The dogs and cats in our rescue are able to have quality foods and litter because of it,” said Barb Hookham, Shelter Manager at Shelter from the Storm Animal Rescue in Madison.

Food and cat litter are major expenses for every animal shelter and rescue group; donations from Purina ® Pets for People™ make it possible for these shelters and rescues to spend their precious resources saving more lives.

This donation distribution was arranged by Animal Services and Assistance Programs Inc. (A.S.A.P.) in partnership with the Purina® Pets for People™ team. These organizations work together year-round to provide and distribute truckloads of donated pet food and supplies to animal shelters and rescue groups.
