Chattanooga, TN, February 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Chattanooga Film Society Presents Mud on the Stars: Stories from Elia Kazan's Wild River

The Chattanooga Film Society is holding its winter quarterly meeting at the downtown Chattanooga YMCA, starting at 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 23rd. The meeting will begin with a brief “meet and greet” for current members and guests. This will be followed by a screening of the documentary film Mud on the Stars: Stories from Elia Kazan's Wild River.

In the documentary, residents of Bradley County, Tennessee, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the movie that put them on the map – or technically, the big screen. This documentary recounts the making of Wild River from the hometown point of view. There will also be a live panel discussion featuring cast and crew members who were involved with the Mud on the Stars project as well as Wild River.

“Some people are surprised to learn that the Tennessee Valley has a rich flmmaking tradition,” says CFS president Dave Porfiri. “Wild River was one of the earliest films shot in the region and is considered to be the first feature-length film shot entirely in Tennessee. Although Wild River was important in its depiction of the beginnings of the TVA, the story behind the making of the film is even more interesting. Just imagine the scene of 1960 small-town Tennessee residents mingling with Hollywood celebrities for several months.”

Admission is $5 at the door for non-members and free to all current CFS members. The Chattanooga Film Society is a nonprofit organization that supports independent filmmaking locally, promotes professional film and television production across the region, coordinates local film education efforts and is currently working on the launch of a major film festival in downtown Chattanooga.
