Cyber Sleuth Takes on Drug Ring

Novelist H. Trussell Pyle’s new character discovers that trying to match wits with a Florida drug kingpin might require more than brains to sidestep a cop hot on his trail, and a nun who’s involved in drug smuggling.

Fort Myers, FL, February 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Well known Southwest Florida writer H. Trussell Pyle announced today the release of his newest work, Charlie’s Hoot, published by Outskirts Press. In this suspenseful crime novel Charlie, an ambitious and tech savvy teenager hoping to support his divorced mother, discovers it’s not so easy to get ahead in international drug circles.

Hired for his technical know-how, Charlie uses it to impress the kingpin of a local drug ring in this Florida resort town. He starts tracing the movements of a fleet of drug runners circling the Caribbean. But he goes too far, finding out too much about the boats and their cargoes. In the process, he learns that his boss is a “respectable” citizen running a mosquito control agency by day and the smuggling operation by night. Having now incurred the wrath of the kingpin, Charlie discovers that brute force can overcome brains. His snooping nets him a vicious beating and, later, insidious diabolical torture.

The kingpin’s sister, a nun in a religious order, meanwhile has been willingly talked into running drugs in the luxurious yacht her brother has bought for her. She wants to expose the drug smuggling operation and thereby convince her brother to go straight. Instead, she promptly finds herself in deep trouble with the law.

The town’s police chief and the editor of the weekly paper are racing to see who can outdo the other in busting the drug ring when the nun throws the cop off balance by convincing him that she has fallen in love with him – just as Charlie suddenly and mysteriously disappears.

As a news reporter early in his career, the author knew many of the lawless and the law enforcers, and he saw the soft sides as well as the hard sides of these men and women who so often put their lives on the line – for good and for bad. Now Charlie’s Hoot shares the intensity of such lives in the unusual collection of characters Pyle has created to drive this suspenseful novel.

Charlie’s Hoot is available online in paperback through Amazon, its Kindle eBook and Barnes & Noble and its eBook, Nook. Discounts are available at www.outskirtspress.com/bookstore in quantities of ten or more.
