HCPCS Codes Announced for MediPlus(tm) Ag Silver Foam Wound Dressings

The Announcement is the Second Tranche of HCPCS Codes for MediPurpose's Expanding Family of Advanced Wound Care Product

Atlanta, GA, March 03, 2012 --(PR.com)-- MediPurpose(r), a master medical product distributor and manufacturer, today announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has confirmed HCPCS reimbursement codes for its MediPlus(tm) Ag Silver Foam wound dressings.

The codes allow healthcare providers to bill for the silver wound dressings, effective immediately.

The announcement is the second tranche of HCPCS codes for MediPurpose's expanding family of advanced wound care products. In August 2011, MediPurpose announced that it had received its first HCPCS reimbursement codes for its new wound care dressing line.

HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) was established in 1978 to provide a standardized coding system for describing the specific items and services provided in the delivery of health care.

HCPCS codes are used by Medicare and monitored by CMS. They are based on the Current Procedural Technology (CPT) codes developed by the American Medical Association.

"Wound dressings and other medical supplies cannot be reimbursed through Medicare without HCPCS codes," said MediPurpose Executive Vice President and CCO Michael Riddle. "Additionally, most private health insurance companies follow the lead of Medicare with these types of medical products."

MediPlus silver foam dressings provide healthcare professionals with a cost effective wound care solution that enables them to offer these beneficial products to a larger population of patients.

Available in three configurations -- Foam Ag, Super Foam Ag and Comfort Foam Border Ag -- MediPlus silver foam dressings meet the antibacterial control standards established by the FDA and provide an effective barrier to bacterial penetration. MediPlus silver dressings are indicated for use on a wide range of chronic and traumatic wounds that include ulcers (arterial, diabetic and venous), pressure sores, donor sites, surgical incisions/excisions and first- and second-degree burns.

The comprehensive MediPlus advanced wound care product portfolio includes:
