George Washington University Selects FieldTurf DoublePlay Baseball System

GW Colonials baseball team to play on new "FieldTurf DoublePlay" turf surface at Barcroft Park.

Arlington, VA, March 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- FieldTurf is the choice of Colonials baseball. George Washington University has decided to install “FieldTurf DoublePlay Classic” at Barcroft Park, electing to go with one of FieldTurf’s innovative baseball-specific systems.

FieldTurf’s product development team, along with research partner Penn State University, designed the DoublePlay product line to be completely customizable to the needs of baseball clients by controlling the speed and pace of the baseball through innovative fiber height and infill solutions. Such customization allows for all baseball programs to get the field they want and the field that best compliments the skills of their team.

“We looked at a number of synthetic turf products for our baseball field. After researching and interviewing several reputable companies we decided to go with FieldTurf,” said head coach Steve Mrowka. “FieldTurf has made tremendous strides in the development of their Baseball Systems with the introduction of DoublePlay and we were impressed by the technology behind it. For us, FieldTurf DoublePlay was the only option.”

Playing ball since 1933, GW Baseball is considered one of the most established and prestigious programs in the nation. The Colonials have captured four A-10 Tournament championships and seven A-10 regular season championships, to go along with seven NCAA Tourney appearances. For the past twelve years, George Washington University has had a player selected in the MLB First Year Player Draft. The school looks forward to continuing their tradition of excellence playing on FieldTurf.

“George Washington University has an outstanding baseball program, and we’re thrilled to have them join the FieldTurf family,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “The team will surely notice the benefits of playing on their DoublePlay surface, as Barcroft Park becomes one of the premier college ballparks nationwide.”

FieldTurf is changing the way the baseball community perceives artificial turf – with its specialized DoublePlay turf systems driving surface innovation throughout every level of baseball. GWU joins an impressive list of over 20 NCAA Division 1 teams that play and/or practice on FieldTurf DoublePlay systems such as the University of Texas, Oregon State University, Rutgers University, and the University of Oregon, to name a few.
