Eric Frank, president and co-founder of Flat World Knowledge, the largest publisher of open college textbooks, will address community college student leaders on new models that can drive down textbook costs and improve student success, at the American Student Association of Community Colleges’ National Student Advocacy Conference, March 17-20, in Washington, D.C.

Irvington, NY, March 14, 2012 --(PR.com)-- ASACC’s 28th annual spring conference will provide general sessions, keynote speakers, workshops and forums designed to educate the student participants on the major issues that are critical to community colleges, including textbook prices, Pell Grants and student loans.

On Sunday, March 18, Frank will be joined by Frank Mensel, ASACC Public Policy Advisor, in two workshop sessions titled, “Attacking the Higher Education Cost Spiral through a Bold New Approach to Textbooks.”

The sessions will include recent data and case studies on how the open textbook model can significantly lower college costs for students, while expanding access and improving retention and outcomes.

Students at community colleges are especially hit hard by soaring textbook costs, which are typically comparable to 72 percent of tuition and fees, according to the Government Accountability Office.
