Conflict! The Inner Struggle Of Parenting Your Parents, a creative non-fiction ebook written and published by Newton businessman, Craig Wolters, has just been released for distribution.

Conflict! The Inner Struggle Of Parenting Your Parents charts the inner struggle and turmoil an adult child is forced to deal with as he becomes his parents’ parent. The book draws from Craig’s own experiences, but over 60 million adults provide care for chronically ill, disabled or aged family members during any given year and spend an average of 20 hours per week caring for those loved ones. Craig hopes his book will provide reassurance and comfort for those in a similar situation.

Craig Wolters, is a local entrepreneur born in Mineola, NY and has lived in Newton, New Jersey for over twenty five years. Craig was suddenly drawn into the world of his declining parents not as part of a planned response but rather as reaction to their need for assistance to maintain their lives. His life was turned upside down in 2005 when his parents’ health began to decline. Dad had COPD, emphysema, and a heart condition, while his mother was suffering from aortic stenosis and dementia.

Craig explains: “In an already demanding world filled with ever lengthening ‘to do’ lists, adding care giving to an already hectic life tried the limits of my capabilities. I felt assaulted on many fronts as I was challenged to learn and recognise that all of a sudden, my parents were rapidly declining and that I was in essence my parents’ parent.”

Conflict! examines three themes arising out of Craig’s experience, which is a familiar story to many today: the intricate demands of being a caregiver, the turmoil of dealing with a personal world torn apart while trying to fulfill roles as a responsible child and spouse, and the inner conflict between spiritual values and human nature.

Craig hopes that others in the local community will be inspired and reassured by his personal experiences and insights presented in the book. “This book includes tips I learned as a result of a lot of hard knocks as a caregiver.” He says, “My goal now is to help other caregivers in this community avoid those same pitfalls and benefit from my experience. These are common sense ways to approach and deal with caregiver situations that many individuals under the pressure of the situation won’t think about.”
