Dog Vacay Not a Threat to House Sitters According to the House Sitting Couple

House Sitters offer a better deal, writes The House Sitting Couple in response to news of Dog Vacay’s funding.

Edinburgh, United Kingdom, March 23, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Despite the backing of First Sound Capital and other prominent investors, Dog Vacay will not be a threat to the growing house sitting industry according to a statement made by the House Sitting Couple today. The blog post comes in response to news that the Science Inc. backed startup has received $1 million funding.

Writing on thehousesittingcouple.com, James Cave, one half of the house sitting duo, highlighted the benefits of a house sitter over using the new dog boarding service. Benefits included having someone in your home whilst you’re away; a deterrent against burglars and a safeguard against household problems such as burst pipes. He believes home security is important enough to make house sitting a strong contender for any future start-ups deciding to mimic Dog Vacay, who don't offer such services.

“Pets aren’t the only concern people have when going away,” James commented. “Burglaries are rife, particularly during the summer months when lots of people take a vacation. There are always tasks that need taken care of too, such as plants watered or deliveries signed for. Most importantly, having a house sitter means that if there is a problem with your home, there's always someone there to solve it.”

The house sitting industry has grown rapidly in recent years, and a number of startup websites such as trustedhousesitters.com and housecarers.com are at the forefront. Although these websites don’t have the same financial backing as Dog Vacay, growth has been strong and the response from both home owners and sitters has been extremely positive.

“Although I’m quick to highlight why a house sitter is better than using Dog Vacay, both of us are on the same page when it comes to finding alternatives to kennels,” admitted James, “and that’s a good thing. Not only are kennels one of the biggest expenses people incur when they go away, but many aren’t in the least bit dog-friendly. Things have needed a good shaking up for a long time and as a two person team we can’t do this ourselves – if Dog Vacay can get more pets out of cages and into the homes of other pet-lovers then that’s something that’s definitely worth putting one million dollars of funding behind.”
