Unique Couples Comforter Competes in Walmart’s First-Ever Get on the Shelf Contest

Watertown, MA, March 27, 2012 --(PR.com)-- An innovative cotton comforter known as the Twovét™ is working hard to drum up support in Walmart’s Get on the Shelf contest. The product’s creator, Tim Doyle, is asking people to vote for his “duvet for two” by texting 448 to 383-838 (normal text messaging rates apply) or visiting http://www.getontheshelf.com/product/448/Twovét.

“Voting is now open to the public, with the first round ending April 3,” said Tim Doyle, founder of TDV LLC. “Please show your support by casting a vote for the Twovét today.”

The Twovét cotton comforter is a product well worth voting for because it solves a problem that many couples have, according to Doyle. The product—whose name is a combination of “two” and “duvet”— is a down alternative comforter that features a thick (warm) side and a thin (cool) side to satisfy different sleeping preferences. In essence, it eliminates the need for couples to have to sleep with multiple blankets or sleep in separate beds. According to a National Sleep Foundation survey, 23 percent of married couples in the United States sleep in different beds. The Twovét can help solve this problem by giving couples a cotton comforter that meets both of their needs and helps them sleep better at night.

“We here at TheTwovét.com believe in our product—in its ability to help couples with different body temperatures continue sleeping together, its excellent construction and overall comfort, and overall appearance,” Doyle said. “We are confident that this product will save you time, money and headaches over the long haul.”

That’s precisely why Doyle entered the Twovét in Walmart’s contest. Get on the Shelf—the first contest of its kind from a major retailer—will enable the top three products to garner virtual shelf space on Walmart.com. The product of the grand-prize winner will have the opportunity to be sold on Walmart.com and featured on the site's home page, as well as get the chance for coveted shelf space in select Walmart stores nationwide. The top 10 finalists will be announced after the first round of voting ends April 3. The second round of voting will take place April 11 through April 24, after which the top three contestants and grand-prize winner will be revealed.

The contest is highly competitive and popular, which is why Doyle is soliciting intensely for votes for his couples comforter. According to Walmart, more than 4,000 product creators entered via video submission to Get on the Shelf between January 9 and February 22 of this year. During the first 24 hours of the contest, which started March 7, 93 percent of contestants had received votes. Participants can vote once for a product using their Facebook account and once using text messaging every day.

The Twovét is a high-quality product manufactured using a 400-thread count, 100-percent Egyptian cotton cover. The couples comforter, which is hand-made in the United States and machine washable, is constructed with a hypoallergenic, high-loft, down alternative fill. It features a 15-inch, sewn-through box construction that keeps the fill from shifting and losing its plumpness. The Twovét currently isn’t sold in stores, but that could soon change if it emerges as the grand-prize winner in the Get on the Shelf contest.

Interestingly, the Twovét is a product whose creation was driven by sheer necessity. Doyle developed it after he and his fiancée searched for but couldn’t find a similar product on the market. Now Doyle, who is taking classes toward his MBA, is passionate about promoting entrepreneurship. He encourages budding inventors to contact him at help@thetwovet.com for product development advice and other information.
