Brooklyn Industries Partners with the Brooklyn Roasting Company to Create the Limited Edition Java Tote

From a coffee bean sack to a fashionable tote, Brooklyn Industries prepares to launch a stylish bag that highlights the brands core beliefs: creating community based partnerships, local manufacturing and using up-cycled materials to produce unique and innovative products

Brooklyn, NY, March 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- As the third launch in a series of locally manufactured, innovative bags, the Java Tote will debut in a limited run at all Brooklyn Industries retail locations.

The partnership between Brooklyn Roasting Company and Brooklyn Industries came about organically as both companies’ headquarters are located in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The head handbag designer for Brooklyn Industries, Nancy Phan walked into the Roasting Company and upon speaking to the staff realized there were hundreds of sacks that transport coffee beans lying idle in the warehouse. She was immediately intrigued by the beauty and simplicity of the existing design on each bag, which sparked the idea to use the sacks to create a fashionable summer tote bag.

Due to the variety of color and graphic combinations, the tote serves as a unisex style. With a recycled Jute outer shell, 100% cotton lining, Italian leather features and pop color details, the Java Tote is not only fashionable but study enough to withstand consistent usage. While each bag is unique, 3 color combinations will be available in Brooklyn Industries retail locations on April 6th: black leather straps with black lining, black leather straps with blue lining and pink industrial plastic straps with pink lining.

Each bags distinct design was created from a variety of coffee sacks coming from: Bali, Brazil, Mexico, Ethiopia and Peru. With the launch of this bag, Brooklyn Industries partnered with an organization that supports farmers within those very areas. The brand joined forces with the Kiva organization due to their mission to bring about change within the farming industry by directing the economic cycle back to farmers. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Java Tote will go to Kiva.
