Local Marketing Firm Offers One-of-a-Kind Internship Program

Whizbang, a local marketing firm, is the only marketing agency in San Luis Obispo with a formalized intern program, the Cadet Program.

San Luis Obispo, CA, March 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Whizbang, a local marketing firm, is the only marketing agency in San Luis Obispo with a formalized intern program, the Cadet Program. Frank Scotti and Ellen Curtis, co-owners and managing partners of Whizbang, decided to create a “teaching agency” after both Scotti and Curtis taught at some of the top advertising portfolio schools in the U.S. including, The Creative Circus, Miami Ad School, and Portfolio Center.

Scotti and Curtis have mentored a number of students through the Cadet Program, and continue to follow many cadets after their internships are complete. The goal of the program is to create a multi-beneficial experience where students receive real world, hands on experience, and Whizbang gets new creative collaborators. What separates Whizbang’s Cadet Program from other internships is a systemized process with graduating levels of progress.

“Whizbang was the perfect culture for a young creator to learn. Unlike other small firms, Whizbang prides itself on the power of a big idea. The most important thing I learned is that no ad can be successful if it doesn’t come from a powerful idea, and understanding this and learning to develop those ideas gave me skills that can translate to any agency in the world,” said Chris Mead, Copywriter for Evolution Bureau and former Whizbang cadet.

The Cadet Program offers entry-level positions in the areas of art, public relations, copy, video, web programming, social media, and account management including media and research. Students are given clear expectations and performance standards relevant to their job description and previous experience. Whizbang has opportunities for students, as well as recent graduates looking to gain experience in a tough job market. Whizbang interns have gone on to hold positions such as Sr. Graphic Designer and Account Manager for large international companies like Google and Petco.

“I learned that if I work at a small agency, I can wear multiple hats and can be courageous when leaping into new projects to try something that's never been done. Whizbang is fearless, and I tried to absorb some of their spirit during my internship,” said Gloria Chase, Account Coordinator at Baker Street Advertising and former Whizbang cadet.

All interns are required to write a blog about their experience at Whizbang. To read some of these Cadet Chronicles visit http://ow.ly/9UKZn.
