Author Dorenda W. Madkins to Release a Children’s Book Titled “Mama, Are Hoodies Bad?

Oklahoma City, OK, April 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Dorenda W. Madkins announced today that she is currently writing a children’s book in honor of the tragedy of Trayvon Martin. The storyline is meant to raise awareness about the consequences of stereotyping. The book will feature a wealthy African American family and a teenager's struggle with what’s good and what’s bad. It is said to contain humor along with very deep emotional moments.

“I think this senseless tragedy has set the platform for others who have experienced racial profiling. There has to be a change and I hope to help in raising awareness in the negative effects of stereotyping based on race, religion or clothing,” said Madkins. She said what happened to Martin could have been one of her teenage sons who walks to convenience stores daily and also buys Arizona tea. “It really hit home because like Trayvon, my sons wear hoodies and have to walk back home through the neighborhood after coming from the store. My heart goes out to Martin's parents and justice must be served,” she explained.

The manuscript for “Mama, Are Hoodies Bad?” is set to be complete by April 7, 2012. The official release date for stores is dependent upon Madkins' publisher. She anticipates that it will be several months before it hits bookstores.
