Balfour Beatty Construction Completes $7M Career and Technical Education Building for Sierra Sands Unified School District

Ridgecrest, CA, April 06, 2012 --(PR.com)-- At a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, the Sierra Sands Unified School District and Balfour Beatty Construction celebrated the completion of the new $7 million Career and Technical Education Building at Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, California. Balfour Beatty Construction Management (At-Risk) services for the new building, located at 500 E. French Avenue in Ridgecrest.

The 18,845 square foot Career and Technical Education Building includes laboratory, classroom, and office spaces. It will help grow the engineering, scientific and technical workforce to benefit regional business and industry, including Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division, China Lake and Searles Valley Minerals.

The west facing exterior wall represents a circuit board and creates a new lighted entrance to the campus, including prismatic glass blocks that change color according to ambient light.

The facility is the first new construction in the Sierra Sands Unified School District in nearly 20 years. Funding for the project is being provided by Proposition 1D Career Technical Education grant funds and a state loan.

The Tustin and San Luis Obispo offices of the architecture firm Westberg + White designed the project. Members of the Balfour Beatty Construction team include vice president Chris Moseley; project manager, Steven Gillman; superintendent, Ron Leith; field engineer, Trish Horton and project accountant, Rebecca Thurman.
