Poetry Collection Showcases Mature Craft: Compass Published by Outskirts Press

Connecticut poet, Erik Hansen’s new collection of poetry leads readers across time and through nature as his lean lines and vibrant images provide confident direction to the heart of the human condition from a compass that is both lyrical and true.

Glastonbury, CT, April 22, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Veteran poet Erik Hansen announced today the release of Compass, New and Selected Poems, published by Outskirts Press. Hansen’s poems span two continents and twenty-five years of creativity capturing the sensual specifics of our natural world -- a fawn, a hummingbird, the night stars -- in a lodestar of well crafted lines that lead to an ultimately spiritual destination.

Whether addressing the heart of real, human experience, as in these lines from “Storm Clouds over Elsinore”:

I do believe
That I am not my father
Yet does his ghost-hand somehow etch
These spreading lines upon my face

or approaching the ideal, as he does in “Compass, Swallow, Stars”:

The swallow
Guided by the stars
Braves the storms
Bound for the familiar home
Of your eyes

Hansen’s poetry keeps us rooted in the tangible world around us and its vital details as he explores a full range of human experience.

Hansen has learned his craft well over the years. His firm, succinct lines waste no syllables or imagery in their direct and well honed path to revelation, and his address of the mystery of winter is as palpable to a reader’s senses as is his approach to the memories and the promises of love.
