20th Century Scarlett O’Hara: When the Bough Breaks Published by Outskirts Press

Novelist Oscar Patton has cleverly blurred the line between fact and fiction in this tale of a single, strong willed woman in a small southern town seizing the reins of a vast empire while some men must stay at home, some go abroad during WWI.

Douglas, GA, April 22, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Novelist Oscar Patton announced today the release of When the Bough Breaks, Rockabye Baby, published by Outskirts Press. Patton weaves together the culture and the history of a small southern town in a tale of greed, ambition, love, hate and lasciviousness during the fall of the once grandest house in Hebron, Georgia.

Ada McCallum becomes a widow and a grieving mother all in one night when her infant son and her rich and powerful husband, the town’s most prominent citizen, suddenly die. She must take over control of his vast enterprise and learn how to make her way in the turbulent world of men at war.

Strong willed, young and beautiful, Ada is able to succeed in business and in love, even though her decisions are sometimes reckless and her choices sometimes unwise. Her story is told by local newspaper editor and McCallum family friend, Carl Goodman, who not only narrates Ada’s remarkable life, but reveals her dark secrets, as well.

The editor also chronicles the dynamics of race, the significant cultural and historical events of Satilla County, ghost sightings and a haunted house, all similar to the town of Douglas, Georgia, where the author himself was raised. A convincing blend of truth and fiction, Patton’s provocative tale reveals much about human nature as it is molded over time by the public traditions and private secrets of a small southern town.

“I have tried to make When the Bough Breaks as true to life as I can,” author Patton writes. “My goal as a writer is to create artistic work that matters.”

When the Bough Breaks matters.
