Spring Cleaning at the FDR State Park

Yorktown Heights, NY, April 22, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Friends of FDR State Park (FoFDR) will host volunteers at FDR State Park as part of the I Love My Parks Yorktown First Annual Event on Saturday, May 5 between 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.. I Love My Park Day Yorktown is an exciting new town wide event to improve and enhance our parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire park system and its needs.

New Yorkers love their parks. Volunteers are willing to help maintain the beauty of New York’s treasured state parks and historic sites. Friends group and volunteers are more important than ever to keep our park beautiful, clean, and welcoming for all to visit and enjoy. Winter leaves debris around and FDR State Park is no exception. Pick up discarded trash – bags, gloves, and safety vests provided, Remove invasive plants that are crowding out native vegetation. Bring work gloves and water. Friends will supply the safety vests, trash bags, and refreshments when you finish. You never know who is going to find the most unusual piece of trash.

Time volunteered can count as community service hours.

About the FDR State Park
Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park is located at 2957 Crompond Road in Yorktown Heights. The park encompasses 960 acres of outdoor recreation opportunity and with a 1.5 million gallon swimming pool, the largest pool in the state park system, many large, rentable picnic areas and pavilions, field and court sports, as well as boating and fishing on Mohansic Lake. Other opportunities include an 18-hole disc golf course and miles of roads and trails perfect for dog walking, running or bicycling. Visitors are welcome to bring their own equipment for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice fishing and snowmobiling during the winter months.
