They are now introducing their “green” diamond initiative. “Green” doesn’t refer to the color of the diamonds, rather the fact that the diamonds are being, in a way, recycled.
“There are many diamonds in the hands of consumers who just don’t have a need for them anymore,” says John Laughter, owner and namesake of John Laughter Jewelers (JLJ). “We have a lot of customers who come to us to sell us their old diamonds. Some diamonds come from divorcees who want to rid themselves of the item, others are from individuals who have inherited an item, and some are from folks who just upgraded to a new diamond and are looking to do something different with their old diamonds.”
Laughter’s program allows an old diamond to take on new shine, brilliance, and sparkle. “We give it a new life,” says Laughter. The program uses diamonds that have come from customers. JLJ will then have the diamonds recut and highly polished to optimize its brilliance and sparkle.
“We have many customers who have their grandmother’s ring that they would like to use in their new diamond engagement or wedding ring. However, the diamond isn’t cut quite as precisely as it could be to optimize its character, so we have it recut and then mount into their ring,” explains Laughter. “They are usually quite shocked when they see how much fire and brilliance our process can give to their old diamond.”
