InfoSec Skills CEO Backs David Willets’ "Hybrid" Approach to National Cyber Defense

InfoSec Skills’ CEO, Terry Neal, has said that he fully supports the position David Willets described in a speech at Europe’s biggest Information Security trade show last week.

London, United Kingdom, May 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- InfoSec Skills’ (http://www.infosecskills.com) CEO, Terry Neal, has said that he fully supports the position David Willets described in a speech at Europe’s biggest Information Security trade show last week. Willets, who holds the responsibility of Minister of Cyber Security, said, “In the UK, we don't treat cyber defense as a solely military issue. Other government departments and law enforcement are brought in under the umbrella and go way beyond the conventional defense and security issues.”

In supporting this radical UK-centric viewpoint, Neal alluded to the work going on in both the government and private sectors in the UK; with much change coming into the security industry this year in terms of building a skills pipeline that draws on talent from kids as young as 16, ensuring they get on the right track in their career from such an early age. “The biggest challenge our industry faces,” continued Neal, “is that we simply don’t have enough of the highly skilled technical talent. We also have a dearth of risk management guys too, but this is a discipline that can be learned a lot more quickly than the high end hacking and forensics roles we are in such desperate need for.”

John Hughes, Director of Faculty and Courses at InfoSec Skills, said that the portfolio of courses he has created for launch this summer takes this challenge head on. “We are working closely with publishers, academia and industry to focus on bridging that skills gap, creating a curriculum that will allow anyone, from the ages of 16 to 60, to get into our profession.”

Whether new to the field of IT Security or people wishing to further their careers, the courses available from InfoSec Skills (http://www.infosecskills.com) are ideal as students can learn at their own speed in their own time.
