Aras Becomes Signatory Member of the Codex of PLM Openness

Issues Public Statement of Company’s Commitment to Openness

Troy, MI, May 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Aras®, the leading enterprise open source Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software solution provider, today announced that the company is a signatory member of the Codex of PLM Openness (CPO) and has posted a public statement about its commitment to openness on its website at http://www.aras.com/company/commitment.aspx

The joint development of a Codex of PLM Openness (CPO) was initiated in 2011 under the auspices of the ProSTEP iViP Association. The CPO is a voluntary self-commitment for industrial and IT companies, aiming at implementing or offering highly integrative solutions for seamless data processes in PLM.

With the CPO, IT providers, integrators and customers have developed for the first time a common understanding on the subject of openness of IT systems in the context of PLM. Essential elements of the CPO are voluntary self-commitment of participating companies and definition of measurable must-, should- and may-criteria. The main categories of the CPO are: interoperability, infrastructure, expandability, interfaces, standards and architecture. For more information, please visit http://www.prostep.org/en/cpo.html

“Openness is fundamental at Aras. From our technology to our business model, open is at the heart of everything we do,” said Peter Schroer, President of Aras. “We applaud ProSTEP for taking the initiative to formalize the tenants of the CPO and look forward to benefits it will bring to the PLM industry.”

Aras Public Pledge to Openness
We are a signatory member of Codex of PLM Openness (CPO) to confirm our long term commitment to openness.

In the CPO "openness is a capability provided by an IT system, and it is characterized by interoperability, portability and extensibility. These capabilities are implemented using IT interfaces, standards and the IT architecture."

At Aras we believe that every company has unique and complex data and process models, and that software should be adapted to fit those models, rather than the business compromised to fit the software.

We also firmly believe that healthy companies change, in fact they should be changing frequently to grow, compete and improve. Businesses must constantly adapt to new market conditions, customer demands, competitive pressures, new technologies, regulatory changes and other factors.

Our approach is to enable corporate process change for continuous improvement through highly flexible and open enterprise software solutions.

We believe that openness is critical to the long term success and sustainability of your company’s enterprise software environment, especially for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

First and foremost, data always belongs to the customer. We enable your company to access, use, customize, integrate, export and move the data that you generate. With Aras your company also owns the processes, data models, business rules and system definition that you create.

To enable true interoperability, portability and extensibility we provide an open architecture which features an open data model and open interfaces, and we are committed to open Web standards in our technology implementations.

We believe that your company must have control over your own destiny, and that the only way to truly achieve this is through openness in your enterprise systems environment.

We are committed to openness.
