Infor Unveils Center of Excellence for IBM System i Platform

Infor’s System i Development Framework Gives Customers Leading-Edge Functionality, Extends and Maximizes IT Investments

Atlanta, GA, June 06, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Infor announced today the launch of the Infor System i Center of Excellence, a cross-section of development and domain experts from within Infor who are committed to enterprise software innovation and application development for the IBM System i platform. The Infor System i Center of Excellence combines Infor’s considerable System i resources into a single community focused on enriching, extending and evolving customer solutions through new capabilities and innovations.

“Our customers rave about the reliability, convenience and low cost-of-ownership of their IBM System i platform and they want to know that their enterprise software provider is just as passionate about it as they are,” said Jim Schaper, chairman and CEO at Infor. “With the Infor System i Center of Excellence, we are demonstrating our long-term commitment to this platform through ongoing support and innovation that will modernize our customers’ solutions.”

Infor has more than 16,000 System i-based applications customers. Infor System i-based products include a range of business-specific ERP solutions including: Infor ERP LX, for high volume manufacturers in the consumer packaged goods, pharmaceuticals and chemical industries; ERP XA, for industrial equipment, machinery and high-tech and electronics manufacturers; ERP System 21, serving food, beverage and apparel and textile manufacturers; and ERP A+, designed for distributors in the medical, food service, specialty, paper and industrial supply industries. Infor HCM Infinium, another System i-based application, provides a complete human capital management solution that addresses a number of industries and is dominant in areas such as gaming and hospitality.

“Infor’s unique approach to application modernization, their comprehensive knowledge of System i application development and their domain expertise results in a winning combination,” said Mark Shearer, General Manager, IBM System i. “Their dedication to the platform and the investments they are making speak volumes to Infor’s commitment to the System i customer base. Infor and IBM continue to look at new ways of working together to provide solutions that help our mutual customers drive innovation in their business."

One of the focal points of the Center of Excellence is an effort to provide new and state-of-the-art capabilities that can be used across Infor’s System i solution portfolio. This is being accomplished through the Infor Development Framework for IBM System i, a common application design and development environment for Infor’s System i solutions. It gives users the ability to create any number of intuitive role-based user interfaces and dynamic reports through simple configurations. This development framework enables SOA capabilities for System i solutions compliant with Infor Open SOA, the architecture for solution interoperability, innovation and evolution across all Infor product lines and technology platforms, providing customers with increased business and IT flexibility and agility.

The development framework is based on Java, interacting with a meta-data layer over the core application. When users configure their desktop interfaces or when the IT administrator creates a new extension or integration to another system, they are not altering the source code. This means all future upgrades are non-disruptive to user and administrative configuration.

“We’ve been using Infor’s XA for fifteen years and the System i development framework has updated it with features that you don’t see in newer ERP systems,” said Steve Sandy, director of Information Technology at DMI Furniture, a unit of Flexsteel Industries. “Our end users in different departments are creating their own interface setups, enabling them to answer questions independently and increasing their productivity. Using the web services component, we cost effectively set up an application to track containers coming out of Asia and can now give our customers accurate arrival dates on their shipments. XA has flexibly adapted as our business has evolved and grown.”

The Infor System i development framework illustrates a key goal of the Center of Excellence, which is to help customers protect their existing investments while benefiting from cutting-edge features without an application or platform migration. The Center of Excellence will also serve to focus Infor’s development efforts and leverage the team’s scale, providing modules and enhancements that are interoperable across the entire System i-based application portfolio.

Infor is delivering solution enhancements based on the development framework in incremental upgrades to customers, and Infor ERP XA is the first solution to take advantage of its capabilities. Infor will provide more details on the development framework at Infor’s annual user conference, Inforum 2007, in Las Vegas on September 9-12, 2007.
