HDFC ERGO Comes to the Rescue of Howrah Farmers Reeling from Excess Rainfall

HDFC ERGO provided relief to West Bengal farmers by settling their claim for kharif season losses incurred in last year's excessive rainfall. The company had insured Aman paddy crops under the govt. approved Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme.

Howrah, India, May 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- HDFC ERGO General Insurance today distributed claim cheques to farmers who faced losses due to Excess Rainfall in the Kharif season last year. The company had insured Aman Paddy crop of the non-loanee farmers of Bankura, Burdwan, Medinipur, Howrah, Hooghly and South Pargana districts under the government approved Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme. Farmers of Howrah, Bankura, Burdwan and Medinipur districts will get benefited by this scheme. The company will distribute approximately Rs 1.04 Crore as claim to more than 2500 insured farmers. This will help them to cope with the losses they have incurred in the last season. The relief in the form of claims would send a positive and encouraging signal to farmers, in the districts in particular and to the wider region in general, with regards to the benefit and utility of insuring their agricultural activities from uncertain events, in this case –excess rainfall.

Mr Pulak Roy - MLA, Mr Gokul Chandra Maiti - ADO, Mr Gopinath Banerjee, Sarpanch distributed the claim cheques to farmers at the event conducted on 27th April, 2012 at Dhurashimla village of Uluberia block in the Howrah district.
