)-- Unusual life experiences coupled with good old-fashioned street wisdom and a through knowledge of the Bible prompted Shawn Smith to write and publish his first book in 2007 and start a ministry on the Web. Now with the publication of his second book, God’s Truth or the Liberal Lie: America at the Crossroads, Smith continues to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ all over the world.
“There is indeed absolute truth, and it is found in a book called the Bible,” says Smith, who considers himself a modern-day knight whose goal is to help others find sound Biblical truth that will empower them to battle liberalism and the spiritual war being waged in our society today.
In God’s Truth or the Liberal Lie, Smith emphasizes that he isn’t writing as a Republican, Democrat, Progressive, Libertarian, Independent, Conservative, Liberal, or any other societal title given to men and women, but simply as a man writing with an open soul and heart—one who is trying to reach across the battle lines and behind the curtain. “I am saddened by what I see in our world today and heartbroken by what we have allowed the enemy to do to our great nation and its people,” he says.
Smith’s writing is powerful because he is a man who has danced with the devil and has the emotional and mental scars that go with it. In his first book, Find Happiness!, which is autobiographical in nature, he tells the frank, no-holds-barred story of his journey from being an atheist to a follower of Christ and all that God did for him along the way. Then, and now in this new book as well, Smith continues to write not as a man with great scholastic achievement, but rather one with a God-given understanding of Biblical truth and a passion to share it with others.
“Shawn Smith gives an honest and practical perspective from a Christian layman’s point of view of the spiritual war waging in contemporary culture today,” confirms Pastor Scott Hawes, South Side Baptist Church of Hannibal, MO. “It is refreshing to read about Shawn’s spiritual journey of growth, desired continued growth, and his burden to challenge others spiritually.”
“If you’re looking for a polished theological treatise written by someone with multiple letters after his name, look elsewhere,” says Pastor and Professor Paul Mills. “If, however, you’re interested in a book with an ‘in your face’ style, written by a man who can say, ‘been there, done that, and it ain’t all it’s cracked up to be,’ this book is for you.”
Smith will be the first to admit that, prior to his conversion, there was not one commandment he had not broken, shattered, or embodied in his life. “In my younger years, I gleefully made sex and alcohol my gods. With knowing eyes, I made the shiny things of this world my idol and willingly profaned and blasphemed the Lord’s name. I destroyed the peace, serenity, and holiness of the Sabbath, dishonored my mother and father, and murdered the innocent. And I personally know the emptiness of abortion because I have been a willing participant in one.”
But for the grace of God, Shawn Smith would have died at the end of a rope when he was just 35 years old. Now in his hard-hitting new book, he continues to share his walk with Christ while systematically exposing and shining the spotlight of Biblical truth of many of the lies our liberal American society is embracing today. “The result,” says Pastor Paul Mills, “is a thought-provoking book which should cause many readers to examine not only their beliefs, but the actions—and ultimately the lifestyle—that result from those beliefs.”
God’s Truth or the Liberal Lie is a 6x9 paperback (180 pages, $16.95), available on Amazon and other online bookstores. It is also available by special order through regular bookstores and by mail from Knight for Christ Publishing, P. O. Box 61, Liberty, IL 62347 (add $4 shipping and handling).
