SAVE JAPAN Project to be Expanded Nationwide Throughout Japan Using “Web-based Insurance Clause”

Tokyo, Japan, May 20, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. (President and CEO: Kengo Sakurada; hereinafter, "Sompo Japan") will from FY2012 expand the SAVE JAPAN Project to cover all regions of Japan, thus providing greater support for environmental preservation activities for endangered species habitats in Japan. The SAVE JAPAN Project was launched in April 2011. In FY2012 Sompo Japan will engage in further collaborative actions with more local communities and environmental NPOs, and step up its community participation-based environmental preservation activities.

1. Overview of the SAVE JAPAN Project

When Sompo Japan customers purchase automobile insurance, selecting the “web-based insurance clause”*1 option, Sompo Japan donates funds to environmental NPOs and others, corresponding to the number of web-based insurance contracts concluded. The environmental NPOs use the donations they receive to implement community participation-based environmental preservation activities. Through the SAVE JAPAN Project, they aim to provide opportunities for communities to nurture interest in their local natural environments, and also “create a habitable environment for living species” through implementation of environmental preservation activities in collaboration with NPOs.

*1 Web-based insurance clause refers to the automobile insurance terms and conditions that may be viewed online on the Sompo Japan official homepage.

2. Policy for Activities in FY2012

In collaboration with Japan NPO Center (JNPOC), an intermediary support body that aims to strengthen and assist NPOs in Japan, Sompo Japan will engage in community participation-based environmental preservation activities to protect endangered species habitats and other natural environments in Japan.

Applications for participants in activities in each region and reports on activities implemented will be published regularly on the SAVE JAPAN Project dedicated website http://savejapan-pj.net/kankyo.html) (Japanese only).
