Faculty of 1000 Launches a Revolutionary Article Search Engine: the F1000 Smartsearch

Faculty of 1000 (F1000) today announced the launch of a new intuitive PubMed search tool, the F1000 SmartSearch. This revolutionary article search engine "learns" the preferences of users as they interact with it and returns articles most likely to be of interest and relevance.

London, United Kingdom, May 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- F1000 SmartSearch enables registered users to seed a search with a cluster of articles that most closely match their interests and interact with the results to tell F1000 SmartSearch whether the articles returned are relevant or not. After a few rounds of results and interactions, the F1000 SmartSearch learns users' preferences and delivers, by email and to users' desktops, the most on-target articles recently published.

Commenting on the launch of the F1000 SmartSearch, Jane Hunter, Managing Director at F1000 said: "Preliminary Faculty Member reviews of F1000 SmartSearch tell us that it's going to be a real game-changer for researchers -- and for everyone else who needs to filter the mass of published literature to find the papers that are most important for their work. I love the F1000 SmartSearch and think it will become a powerful tool for more intelligent searches of the literature," commented Lu Chen from the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, CA, USA, and F1000 Faculty Member in Neuroscience.

Linda Amos from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK and F1000 Faculty Member in Structural Biology uses the F1000 SmartSearch and told them: "The F1000 SmartSearch is doing much better than my keyword search." Stephen Roper, Professor of Physiology and Biophysics, University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL USA, and F1000 Faculty Member in Neuroscience, also uses the new search tool and commented: "The SmartSearch result I just received was incredibly important. It pointed me to a paper that had just been pre-released, not even on the journal's website under the current issue, and the paper was über important for my research findings. In short, the F1000 SmartSearch has been terrific!"

F1000 was originally developed to organize and evaluate the enormous wealth of information in biology and medicine literature. The core of the F1000 service is the 10,000 Faculty Members and Associates, who cover some 350 defined specialty sections and collectively contribute around 1300-1500 article recommendations per month. These evaluations are published immediately on F1000 and constitute an up-to-date and comprehensive guide to the best of the scientific literature.

Through a variety of sophisticated search facilities, including quick keyword searches and advanced searches by title, author, journal name, subject area, publication date or Faculty Member, F1000 users can be kept completely informed about what they should read and why it matters to their research or medical practice. Users can also store searches to be received by email, to ensure they never miss an important article.
