First Annual Kleinburg Jazz Festival

The 1st Annual Kleinburg Jazz Festival came to a close with everyone agreeing that it was a huge success. The three-day festival was launched at The Doctor's House on Friday, June 8th, with a big kick-off party that featured music by Juno award-winner Hilario Duran and his 8-piece Havana Remembered Band.

Kleinburg, Canada, June 13, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The musical program continued on Saturday and Sunday in the town square. The opening group was The Emily Carr Totem Jazz Band, recent recipients of gold at Music Alive, and their Resonance Choir. Both delighted the audience with their skill and youthful exuberance. Some of the other featured artists were Dr. Draw, who captivated the audience with his electric jazz violin, and Michael Roberts, whose flamenco jazz guitar stole the show.

The Doctor’s House has been featuring jazz more and more over the last 5 years and has plans to build a jazz club by next summer. The idea to have this form of music spill over into the village comes from The Doctor’s House Sales & Marketing Manager, Gina Hartly, who saw in it a great opportunity for Kleinburg. In her welcome speech at the kick-off party, she said:

“This event is very important for Kleinburg. And it was long overdue. If you know Kleinburg, you will agree that jazz is a type of music that suits it so well. And so, it was just a matter of time before a jazz festival became established in Kleinburg. This event now establishes the picturesque village of Kleinburg as a mecca for both art and music. Already home to the famous McMichael Canadian Art Gallery, Kleinburg is now able to offer its visitors regular musical events. If you add to this Kleinburg’s historic setting, you have a powerful combination that is sure to attract more visitors and therefore more vitality and business to its core.

However this event belongs with the village of Kleinburg and the City of Vaughan, and therefore, I will be sending a symbol of The Kleinburg Jazz Festival to the City of Vaughan, with the request to take it over, to nurture it and let it flourish, so that it continues to grow, bigger and better every year.”

There were countless volunteers involved in planning the 3-day event. All of Kleinburg’s shops were in some way involved, as was the BIA. Everyone embraced the project with great enthusiasm and support. Because of its great success, plans are already underway for the 2nd Annual Kleinburg Jazz Festival.
