Baxley Continues Charge at Heritage

Rob Baxley continued his charge toward the 2007 USA Golf Tour Amateur Net handicap Championship with a net 66 in round 1. The 2007 USA Golf Florida Open was original set to be a two day event. Tropical Strom Barry forced the tour director to change the event to a one day 36 hole event. The course showed no signs of the storm as players geared up for a long day of golf. After the first round Rob Baxley and Ken Rich were tied at net 66. Mike Ennis was second with a net 70.

Tampa, FL, June 13, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The second round played continued to battle to gusting winds. Efrian Cruz started the round with birdie, eagle, birdie in route to front side net 28. Rob continued to play strong on the front Ken and Mike both struggled on the front side to fall 5 shots back. “I knew I was playing well and my confidence was high....I just wanted to keep doing what I was doing and try not to think about it. After posting my best 9 of the day on the first 9 of the second round.” Rob said “I knew I was in the driver's seat and perhaps got little too confident and starting making mistakes which almost cost the tournament for me. I was able to get back on track on the last few holes and sort of limped in.”

Mike Ennis was able to catch Rob and tie for the lead going heading to the 16th tee. Mike Double bogied the par 3 and Rob Pared the hole to give Rob a 2 stroke lead. Both players finished the round par, bogey to give Rob Baxley his first Major win.
