TransVault Gives Organizations View of Legacy Archive Contents Enabling Intelligent Migrations to Microsoft Exchange

Organizations wishing to switch to using native Microsoft Exchange archiving can now analyze their legacy archived data and make informed, policy-based decisions on what to move across.

Orlando, FL, June 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Leading email archive migration vendor TransVault Software has today announced support for selective migrations directly into Exchange on-premise or online archives from almost all commonly used 3rd-party archives as well as enterprise-wide PST files.

TransVault solutions for Microsoft Exchange let organizations perform detailed analysis and profiling of their legacy archive contents, enabling them to perform intelligent migrations such as only moving the last 7 years’ worth of data into Exchange archives; excluding emails that have been marked as spam; not moving items where users have deleted shortcuts, or grouping leaver’s archives into single, departmental archives.

According to TransVault CEO Barney Haye, “Vendor-supplied archive extraction tools typically offer an all-or-nothing approach with no visibility into what type of data is stored and no control over what gets moved and where. While it’s imperative for businesses to retain emails in accordance with their compliance remit, organizations generally want to avoid over-collection of data. Blindly shifting everything into Exchange could mean moving TBs of garbage and will increase future eDiscovery costs and time.”

Using TransVault solutions organizations can get to grips with their legacy email records and implement granular migration policies that match their business, legislative and operational needs. Organizations can also manage previously uncontrolled PST contents in line with company retention policies.

Continued Haye, “What we offer is flexibility without compromising integrity. For example organizations can move required data to Exchange and capture any non-migrated data into an offline store before decommissioning their legacy archive environment. All data movement is fully audited, and, because we support direct transfers from the old archive into Exchange personal archives there’s no need for interim stages or restores back to primary Exchange mailboxes which can cause operational chaos and break chain-of-custody.”
