Female Novel of Self Discovery Penned by Male Author Wins Award

Author's second novel wins NY Book Festival Award as he writes women's lit told through 1st person narrative.

Hawthorne, NJ, June 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- ASD Publishing is pleased to announce the compelling novel Patchwork of Me by Gregory G. Allen has won the 2012 NY Book Festival award in General Fiction. This marks the 2nd award for the book that came out in April as it was also named the 2012 International Book Award winner for Women’s Lit.

“I feel so honored and humbled that this book is being recognized in such a way,” Allen says. “I was slightly nervous how it would be received when it came out as I don’t always play by the rules. My novel is told in the first person narrative of a woman who grew up in the foster care system and through therapy uncovers some memories of her early childhood. So she travels across country from Arizona to Maine to patch her life back together.”

Allen writes in numerous genres and is always changing the style and voice in which he tells his stories. ASD has published his other books which include a story of addiction and dying of his older brother, a family saga of two brothers dealing with religion and sexuality, and a children’s book on autism awareness.

“I love to write diverse stories to show how people overcome adversity and break through obstacles,” Allen says. “I marvel at writers such as Augusten Burroughs and Wally Lamb who can make it look so easy to do.”

Allen has been in the entertainment industry for over twenty years as an actor, director, producer and writer. He is an award-winning composer and his books have received awards and high praise. He has been featured in national magazines, NY/NJ PBS stations, and several radio shows. He is currently promoting his book via an Orangeberry Book Tour with interviews, guest posts and features across the internet and will be sharing the book on a mini tour of Maine.

Allen will be signing copies of his books at the following Maine locations:

Sat, June 23 Bath Book Shop 11 am-1 pm Bath, ME
Sun, June 24 Tugboat Inn 12-1:30 pm Boothbay Harbor, ME
Mon, June 25 Freeport Community Library 7-8:30 pm Freeport, ME
