2010 NGA TOUR Player of the Year Michael Thompson Ties for 2nd in U.S. Open

NGA TOUR alums David Toms, John Peterson, Jim Furyk tie for 4th, 2011 NGA TOUR member Casey Wittenberg finishes top 10.

San Francisco, CA, June 20, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Following his opening-round 66, current NGA TOUR Advisory Board member Michael Thompson said he knew there would be hardships during the event, but he liked his ability to grind.

Thompson’s tenacity was on full display on Sunday at the 112th U.S. Open at The Olympic Club.

After starting the day T18, the 2010 NGA TOUR Player of the Year carded a 3-under 67 in the final round to move into a tie for second. Thompson had four birdies and one bogey on the 7,170-yard layout on Sunday and finished with a 2-over 282 total, one shot behind winner Webb Simpson.

Fellow NGA TOUR winner David Toms also posted one the few sub-par rounds on Sunday. Toms fired a 2-under 68 to move from T18 into a tie for fourth at 3-over par. John Peterson, a 2012 Bridgestone Winter Series competitor whose scheduled to compete in the NGA TOUR's upcoming Golfrest Classic, shot an even-par 70 in the final round to join Toms and 1992 NGA TOUR member Jim Furyk (74) in a tie for fourth place.

Another former NGA TOUR POY, Casey Wittenberg, finished with an even-par 70 and 5-over par for the event. The 2011 NGA TOUR member and multi-time NGA TOUR winner finished in a tie for 10th with fellow alum John Senden.

Former NGA TOUR winner Blake Adams (75) finished T21, while NGA alum Kevin Na (73) finished T29 with 2012 NGA TOUR players Morgan Hoffmann (70) and Scott Langley (73).
