Traverse City, MI, June 21, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On August 10-12, 5th Annual Cherry-Roubaix, presented by Garan, Lucow Miller, P.C., returns the ultimate destination competition for the State Road Race Championship endorsed by the Michigan Bike Race Association in conjunction with USA Cycling, Inc.

Adrian Sarkozy, director of the Michigan Bicycle Racing Association, is enthusiastic about the 2012 event. "The Michigan Bicycle Racing Association is thrilled to start and finish back on top of Sugar Loaf mountain. On Sunday, August 12, we’ll be excited to introduce our new 2012 road race champions. The USA Cycling sanctioned Prologue TT on Friday, August 10 is also an exciting addition to the jam-packed weekend of racing. Cherry-Roubaix series is a three-day weekend event. The State Championship Road Race is on Sunday, August 12. The championship course begins and ends high atop Sugarloaf Resort in Cedar, Michigan.

The weekend thrills from the start as Old Mission Peninsula Time Trials delight spectators and challenge Cherry-Roubaix competitors on Friday, August 10. Excitement continues on August 11 with Saturday’s full day of competitive cycling that gets into gear with the morning Cherry-Roubaix Charity Ride to benefit Munson Healthcare Women’s Cancer Fund for cyclists of all levels. Following the benefit ride, the Cherry-Roubaix Old Town Criterium launches into high-energy action, where spectators and racers feel engaged in the incredible speed of athletes careening around cobblestone corners on a one mile course through the streets of Traverse City. Additional events including the Kids Ride and fun, free-for-all Cruiser Classic ensure all Cherry-Roubaix participants and audiences get the satisfaction they expect.

Sealing the weekend, on Sunday, August 12, the Michigan State Road Race Championship features the most challenging course in Michigan across gorgeous Leelanau County. This demanding race has earned its stripes as the most rigorous road race in the state, and as a result determines Michigan’s best of the best. Hills and turns of the of the old 1980’s State Road Race course are unforgiving, brought back to host and test racers from around the state.
