HCPCS Reimbursement Codes Announced for MediPlus(tm) Alginate Wound Dressings

Atlanta, GA, June 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- MediPurpose(r), a medical product master distributor and manufacturer, today announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has confirmed HCPCS reimbursement codes for its MediPlus(tm) Alginate wound dressings.

The codes allow healthcare providers to bill for the alginate dressings, effective immediately.

The announcement is the third tranche of HCPCS codes for MediPurpose's expanding family of advanced wound care products. In 2011, MediPurpose announced that it had received its first HCPCS reimbursement codes for its then-new wound care dressing line, and in 2012, it announced HCPCS codes for its Silver Foam wound dressings.

HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) was established in 1978 to provide a standardized coding system for describing the specific items and services provided in the delivery of health care.

HCPCS codes are used by Medicare and monitored by CMS. They are based on the Current Procedural Technology (CPT) codes developed by the American Medical Association.

"Wound dressings and other medical supplies cannot be reimbursed through Medicare without HCPCS codes," said MediPurpose Executive Vice President and CCO Michael Riddle. "Additionally, most private health insurance companies follow the lead of Medicare with these types of medical products."
