Section 501(r) of the Internal Revenue Code was enacted in March 2010 and mandates that nonprofit hospitals to comply with new requirements in order to maintain their tax-exempt status. Aside from expanding their aid service to the community, they are expected to understand the key components of community health needs assessment (CHNA) which includes setting new limitations, policies and procedures related to billing actions.
