Stanbridge College Assists Red Cross in Saving 63 Lives in Orange County

Stanbridge College students and staff donated over 23 units of blood and assisted in saving the lives of 63 people in Orange County at the June Blood Drive for the American Red Cross.

Irvine, CA, July 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Stanbridge College, a technical college that offers diploma programs and Associate, Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Healthcare and Information Technology, recently hosted a blood drive for the American Red Cross. Over 30 volunteers and donors participated in donating 23 units of blood. According to the Red Cross this allows 63 people to receive life-saving blood transfusions for their medical needs.

According to Stanbridge College Vocational Nursing student and blood drive volunteer, Yvonne Williams, “Stanbridge College has given us the opportunity to give back to the community and giving blood is a way to give back to the community. Our blood stores deplete periodically throughout the month or year and it is nice to be able to give a little back to the community and help them out by giving blood.”

Every quarter, Stanbridge College REACH - Beyond the Classroom™ hosts a blood drive for the American Red Cross. In 2011, Stanbridge College received a Platinum Sponsorship Award from the Red Cross for an 82% increase in donations within the 12 month period.

Blood drives are just one of the many events hosted by Stanbridge College REACH, an initiative for service learning and civic engagement that encourages Stanbridge students to give back to their local community. Students are able to learn skills in leadership, critical thinking and compassion as they apply their classroom lessons to issues and people in need. In the past, Stanbridge College REACH has worked with the Orange County Medical Reserve Corps, the County of Orange, several public health clinics and organizations like Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to assist in providing medical services to the homeless and impoverished.
